The surveying and mapping industry refers to the industry that obtains spatial information of the Earth's surface through measurement, mapping, remote sensing and other technological means, providing technical support for land and resources management, urban planning, engineering construction, environmental protection, transportation and other fields. The total value of China's surveying and mapping services in 2022 was 174.53 billion yuan,a year-on-year increase of 5.63%,and will increase to 187.35 billion yuan in 2023.The total output value of the geographic information industry based on surveying and mapping services will reach 811.1 billion yuan in 2023,a year-on-year increase of 4.2%,with an average annual compound growth rate of 11.5%over the past 10 years.
Before the 19th century, the Industrial Revolution promoted the development of surveying instruments, giving rise to precision instruments such as theodolites and leveling instruments. However, the surveying industry mainly relied on manual measurement and mapping, with relatively backward technological means and low work efficiency. At the beginning of the 19th century, the emergence of aerial photography technology brought about the first revolutionary change in surveying technology, making large-scale and complex terrain surveying feasible. In the 20th century, the emergence of artificial satellites opened the era of satellite remote sensing surveying and brought about a second revolutionary change in the surveying industry. These two revolutions laid the foundation for the data acquisition paradigm(aviation→satellite)and processing paradigm(analog→digital)of modern surveying and mapping, while unmanned aerial vehicle surveying is the third technological revolution after aerial photogrammetry and satellite remote sensing, and is reconstructing a new paradigm of"real-time,intelligent,and civilian".
The huge technological advantages combined with policy promotion have led to the rapid development of the unmanned aerial vehicle surveying industry.Specifically, the efficiency of unmanned aerial vehicle surveying is more than 10 times that of manual surveying, and the cost of surveying in mountainous/unmanned areas is only one-third to one-fifth of that of traditional aerial surveying(without the need for manned aircraft rental fees).Emergency surveying response time can be shortened from days to hours, and surveying accuracy can reach centimeter level;According to the"Overall Implementation Plan for the Construction of Realistic 3D China(2023-2025)"issued by the Ministry of Natural Resources,China will initially establish Realistic 3D China by 2025,with the basic completion of 5-micron network terrain level Realistic 3D and the initial coverage of 5-centimeter resolution city level Realistic 3D for cities at or above the prefecture level.By 2030,Realistic 3D China will be fully completed, and the full coverage of cities at or above the prefecture level will stimulate a huge market demand, promoting the unmanned aerial vehicle surveying industry to enter a stage of simultaneous improvement in quantity and quality.
